Agate Springs Ranch

Agate Springs Ranch, a working cattle ranch, has been owned by the same family for 130 years. Situated in the northwest corner of Nebraska, an area of blowing sand and shortgrass prairie, Agate stands as an anomaly. Lush meadows cover the bottom land of Agate where the Niobrara River valley meanders from the west end of the ranch to the to the east end, while sandstone bluffs act as sentinels on the north and south. Giant willow and cottonwood trees, planted by Captain James Cook, protect the headquarters - main ranch house, foreman's house and corrals - from the ever-present Nebraska winds.
